much love, izzy
Zippy responds: Sorry about the grooming, Izzy. It sounds awful. Maybe you should hang out in front of a mirror and admire the results while they last. It might help. And I’m glad the clock is a hit!

Message: hi zip! we received another update from the good folks at the lakeshore corgi rescue in wisconsin. dad says most of our less fortunate corgi pals have now been adopted and are doing well. boy, those folks down there sure did a bang up job.what a great ending to a sad story eh? it sure makes us appreciate the homes we corgis have! one more thing... dad ordered us a “zippy wall clock” and it’s now hanging right above olivers food bowl. (mom thought he was a bit wierd on this one...) we find it has been very helpful in keeping tabs on our corgi “duties”. talk to you soon! haley, oliver and morgan

Message: hi zippy, i am tired of walking the same path around our neighborhood every morning and evening. i want to go where there is a mean dog behind the fence that jumps and barks at me, so i can have swell time jumping and barking at him in return. my lady does not understand it, and she pulls me back but i refuse to move. she gets frustrated and picks me up and tries carrying me. but next time we go for a walk i do it again. why can’t she understand the importance of barking back? how do i explain it to her? yours, bud.
Zippy responds: You get carried? Oh, how humiliating! I hate to say it, but gaining a lot of weight will put an end to that. Yeah, I’m joking. Maybe. And sorry to say, the importance of barking can only be explained to People by...barking.

Message: just wanted to share, my folks (who are, of course, members of the lesser corgi society)are so proud of me. you see, i am really food motivated--i even ask for and eat lettuce--so when a piping hot, fresh chocolate chip cookie hit the floor yesterday, i was there before you could wag a nub. just as i was about to gobble the cookie, i heard “no, no, cati. leave it” and i did. leave it, that is. “leave it” is something my folks and i have worked really hard on and that i have become quite good at. kind of sad, though, because even though it would hurt me, i’d love to know what chocolate tastes like...
keep up the good work zippy, you are a grand ambassador of corgi kind

Message: hi zippy! we have lots of snow here, so much that my two-leggers had to dig a “poop loop” in the backyard so i could releive myself! being of a roughly 7" inseam, the 12+ inches of snow on the ground presented a bit of an obstacle. i love to play in the snow, but this is a bit much for someone of my stature. more is on the way! what’s a girl to do???

Message: moi again. thank you so much for getting back to me so quickly! most wouldn’t reply for about a year. it’s a shame the music program you use isn’t around any more. try garageband. it’s really great for making music: my school use it. we use apple macs at school but i think you just might be able to get a pc version...i’m not sure. i was looking back at the correspondence page from 1997. i saw you didn’t reply? i also saw most didn’t put their hometown. i sure think your correspondence has improved massively since then, and i love how you...or your folks, whoever, update this place so often. no wonder you won that good citizen award. lol. see ya! hey, zippy, i have a question.
i’d like to get a corgi as a nice companion when i’m old enough to live on my own and handle looking after someone else, and i just adore pembroke welsh corgis. thing is, i read that in play they snap at the heels (mostly running with children). got any tips on how to train a dog not to do so? i’m stumped, because our dog never does that...
amy, age 11
Zippy responds: Yeah, there were no replies in the early days of the website. Then I got chatty. As to the heel-nipping, we are herders, so heels can be tempting for some of us. They never held much appeal for me, though. But for any behavioral problem, a good professional trainer is the way to go. Ask your breeder for recommendations.

Message: dear zippy, i really dig your website!(pardon the pun) i was wondering if you had any tips on mooching “people food” from your folks :) being corgis, you know, we are very treat-oriented. sometimes i get special treats by accident, like one time on thanksgiving when a whole slice of pumkin pie fell off a plate. i snatched up this gourmet prize so i wouldn’t have to share with my two corgi friends. my folks were amazed at how quickly i zoomed in on it. best wishes for dog toast, keeper
Zippy responds: Accidental treats, while extremely tasty, are unfortunately rare. Unless your folks are extremely clumsy. And they might be. But the real prize is having them give you something because you are just so precious and adorable and it becomes irresistible for them to slide a little something off a plate directly into your vicinity. As a Corgi, you are well on your way to precious and adorable. Now you just need to hone your technique. An earnest stare accompanied by a slight drool and an enigmatic smile is a good place to start. Enjoy!

Message: hi zippy!
you are so cool! i’m sidney, and i’m a 6 month old pembroke. i just came a week ago to live with my forever family. they have two old dogs, a corgi mix and a lab mix. what fun it is to try to play with them! they don’t seem to like it too much, though. zippy, i have a question. my first human mom did not have my tail docked, and my forever family thinks i look too cute with my tail and don’t think they will do it either. will the other corgis make fun of me? what should my human mom say when other people ask why i have my tail? i like wagging it and i think it makes me look like a fox. thanks, zippy! my human mom always laughs when she reads your blog.
Zippy responds: This subject is not without controversy, Sidney, but I am jealous of your tail. I wish I had one. Yes, the traditional Corgi “Bunny Butt” is adorable, but au naturel is beautiful too (some Corgis have a natural bob). In Great Britain, where they know a thing or two about Corgis, docking is now banned in many cases. So I believe your look is on the forefront of fashion anyway. Fly that flag proudly!

Message: hi zippy! it’s a dreary day here. all the snow is melting. keep your paws crossed taht we get some more. there’s nothing like a good romp in the snow! and my two-leggers say nothing’s cuter than corgi butts bouncing around in the snow. i must agree....as much as i hate to agree with them. hmmpphh! however, if it results in a few extra yummies, i can play the game. :o) hope you get some extra yummies sometime soon, zippy!
Zippy responds: We have had no snow here, but a short hop up the highway and we can be elbow-deep in it. No, it really doesn’t take much.
