Message: zippy,
i am a fellow pem who appreciates your journal musings and especially your sense of humor. my folks tell me i crack them up all the time, but they also tell me i am a top rate con artist, and i don’t know what that means.
keep writing and spreading the message about us corgis!
Zippy responds: Whenever I am accused of being a con artist, it is usually because I have done a superb job of convincing my folks that they forgot to give me dinner. One man’s con artist is another man’s polished thespian.

Message: hey zippy and daisy, hope you guys had a great christmas. we love having everyone home all day during this time of year--lots of belly rubs to go around. we have sad news, pete has lymphoma but our family is keeping him comfortable and happy as long as possible. for now, everyone is getting and giving all the belly rubs and kisses in we can. mom wants everyone to remember to love their dogs as much as they can every day and remember what an honor it is to share our lives. peace to everyone!
Zippy responds: Sad news indeed. Love and licks to Pete.

Message: howdy zippy it has been a while since i’ve chatted. i have a story for you. last sunday mom and i went to the barn to put water in the horse tanks. the 3' of snow from the week before had melted some, and the black mud and green horse poo was nice and wet. so when mom wasn’t looken,i took a mud and horse poo bath. oh it was great. my white was black and i smelled soooo good. and then it happened. mom put me in the back of the truck and shut the tail gate, and to the house we went. and before i new what was going down i was getting a bath. all of my hard work went down the drain. i flattened out my ears and gave mom crusty looks for 2 days. i really really hate to get a bath. the horse poo just keeps coming so i think i will try again. tell daisy hi. later

Message: oh zippy....i thought my tail might save me from sue’s costume designing but alas it did not. yesterday i found myself in the middle of costume contest with 30 some other poor pups out at my favorite kenl inn. everyone told me how adorable i looked, but we all know corgis are adorable au naturel. but hey. i won a prize package with toys and a huge bone cookie from my favorite local barkery. plus i got to play on my favorite agility toys, saw lots of old buddies and had my picture taken, so it was good day overall. and i didn’t even have to make a siren sound! ok zip, gotta go -- off for more weekend adventures with my people. bye!!!

Zippy responds: Ah, yes, Halloween is coming. You might just want to go with it, and play your part well. Can you do a good fire engine siren sound? You can if you put your mind to it. You will be doomed to dress up as a fire engine at least once a year if you pull it off well, but I am willing to bet extra treats would be involved. On the other hand, you may just wish to preserve your dignity. Sometimes those extra treats come with a price that is just too high.

Message: even celery’s nice spread with some cream cheese or peanut butter. although come to think of it, like with green beans, i pretty much just enjoy the juicy crunch and then discretely dispose of what’s left. by the way, i need some etiquette advice from you or any of your fans: i know it’s wierd for a dog, but i’m a little picky about my treats. there’s a store in town where they always generously offer visiting dogs one of their treats, always something dry and biscuity. i’m hoping for something chewy and aromatic, so i sniff and look away. or sometimes i take it in my mouth to try to be polite, but then drop it on the floor. is there something we can say or do to avoid embarrassment and insult? saying i just ate lunch doesn’t seem to help. thanks!
Zippy responds: Picky? About treats? Well, I’m just going to have to take your word for it, Simon. But maybe your folks could offer some sad excuse about your teeth being painful when you aren’t in the mood for a crunch. Be sure to do the sad puppy look, and I’ll bet a softy comes your way pretty quick. Just make sure the store doesn’t offer dental services, or you could be in for more than you bargained.

Message: hi zippy! are you feeling alright? i mean, through your discussion about the fortune treats you didnt mention how they taste! i was very interested to learn you enjoy a garden-fresh vegetable every so often, and im curious which ones you have a taste for. do you have to shoo away any bunnies, i wonder?
Zippy responds: Oh, I never met a treat I didn’t like, don’t worry. We also like most vegetables—except celery—but we don’t really eat out of the garden. Vegetables are so much better sautéed in olive oil, sprinkled with a bit of parmesan and served with an attractive garnish. We have no actually bunnies, but I do a very good bunny impersonation, so that takes care of that.

Message: hi, zippy! i just spent a week at “spa grandma” while my people went on a short trip. i highly recommend it. my grandma understands the corgi need for snacks and belly rubs better than anyone i know. please excuse any spelling errors in this message; my mom needs to work on her typing-while-being-nosed-by-me skills. it has been very hot here, too. my favorite cooling off trick is to lie on the basement floor while the servants do the laundry. aaahhhh!

Message: my wife and i discovered your website while doing, yet more, corgi research. actually we stumbled upon it by googling for corgi pictures late last night. i have to admit, it’s quite unique and entertaining while being subtly informative and even educational. my wife, shelle, couldn’t stop laughing as she kept peeking into the office to find i was playing all your games. actually, i was just seeing if they were worth sharing with our younger relatives. by the way, we strongly concur with your feelings in the “tips” you give on corgis. they can well apply to most dogs. i retired from long military service 10 years ago and now enjoy a life-long love teaching humans how to train their dogs in a large pet store in our area - that only adopts out cats & dogs from local rescues, by the way. i’ve had a few opportunities to help train corgis and have been rather impressed, especially if their folks follow the instructions we practice each day in between the weekly classes i give. you corgis seem to be quite sharp mentally, willing to please, eager to learn and easily sociable with others (despite what i’ve read about how corgis might be with strangers...maybe that’s just in your homes...). we have had golden retrievers for many years (still have 3, two work with me as “demo-dogs”). but my wife has long wanted a smaller (at least shorter) companion for her very own as she had when she was much younger. after much, over a year of, research we’ve found out that corgis seem to be much like goldens, only in a shorter body. even all the shedding is the same! (funny how we don’t really notice that much unless it’s mentioned by others...) but we take care of that with a short raking every day before our walks and then use the furminator for our spring and fall “blowouts.” (you might like to have your folks at least try out that method if combs and brushes alone get a bit tedious or tiring, zippy. it’s certainly much easier on my old elbows and shoulder!) our goldens love apples and get a small one each day. by the way, how do you and your folks feel regarding the corgi to golden retriever comparison...(despite the reputed corgi “stubborness,” which i think is more a reliable “leadership” issue rather than a corgi “personality” per se)? take care, give daisy our “hellos” and know i am sending your games websites to our grandkids and younger nieces & nephews. art & shelle (now of south carolina)
Zippy responds: Unfortunately, my folks are profoundly unqualified to render any opinions on golden retriever comparisons. (They are actually profoundly unqualified in many areas.)

Message: dear zippy, how are you doing? im am good, other than the raging heat!!!any tips on how to cool down? i have tried to cool down by spilling my water bowl on the tile and then rolling in it, but it does no good. it just makes you soggy and thirsty, thirsty unless your folks notice you have no water, or unless you have enough energy to trot to the toilet. see ya later! austin

Message: hi zippy - another way to cool off if you refuse to get in a wading pool is to play “the garden hose is a deadly rattlesnake” in the driveway. you have to grab the snake in your mouth, just behind its head, and shake it furiously. it gets especially exciting if you have the spritzer attachment on and the garage door open. everyone gets very refreshed. have fun!

Zippy responds: You know, our folks bought us a pool one year, thinking that because we like lakes and creeks we would like the pool, but they never seemed to realize that we were reminded too much of taking a bath to enjoy it.

Message: dear zippy, how are you, and how was your 4th of july? i am good, but the temperature has been getting really hot in colorado. i think i will show my folks your babyfood/ yogurt recipe. has it been pouring every night where you live? ’cause it sure does down here, which is kinda good because after i play in the hot, burning sun, i can get cooled down by sitting in the rain. but it can be scary too, because a light flashes, and then the whole sky lights up and there is a loud boom!!! it was kinda like those stupid, noisy fireworks on the 4th of july. i hate those things. do you get scared when you hear fireworks? oh, i gotta go, it is rainging and i am dying of the heat! austin

Message: hiya zippy! my pal sue helps me check your blog every few days for the lastest corgi news. i don’t have a blog as sue is, er...well, technologically challenged. but she’s great in the kitchen and she’s going to make me some of those frozen treats this weekend. yummmmm it’s like a gazillion degrees here too, which makes sleeping on the ac vent seem so logical. my birthday is in two days - i hope she doesn’t make me wear a silly hat. corgis are cute enough without party hats.... which brings me to my last thought, which is that i have a bit of a bone to pick with you. ever since sue saw your school bus costume, she’s been thinking about something similar for me. just like party hats, corgis just simply don’t need costumes. fortunately, i have a tail that seems to put the brakes on her creativity. never underestimate the power of a tail!
